Glasses Direct founder and executive chairman Jamie Murray Wells has embarked on a search for the company's first chief executive officer to manage the day-to-day running of the business.
In a statement, Murray Wells told Optician that he had managed to persuade the board to approve the new appointment in light of the online retailer's escalating demand and its global expansion ambitions.
'As founder and executive chairman I will have time to concentrate my efforts on internationalisation, fundraising, industry and regulator relations, business development, as well as ensuring the brand principles are upheld, and of course all media relations for the company,' he said in the statement.
'I know that my partnership with the new CEO will help drive the business forward at all levels.'
As reported in Optician, (News, December 14 2007), the online retailer moved into a new 10,000sq ft warehouse in Swindon as part of its expansion plan after it secured a $6m cash injection from two venture-capital investors.
