Vision Express acquires Batemans Opticians

Vision Express has acquired G.Bateman Group, the family owned optical company, for an undisclosed sum, Optician has learned.

With over 70 stores, the Group which has branches across Southern England has been a family concern for over 100 years. The acquisition takes the total number of stores owned by Vision Express to 300 and, according to the company, reaffirms its number two position in the optical market.

Commenting on the acquisition, Vision Express' chief executive officer, Bryan Magrath said: 'This is a major step in the growth of Vision Express. It not only shows our strength and position within the market but also demonstrates our intent to invest in brands with the same vision and values in order to grow our business.

He added: 'In times where the retail market is in flux we are able to provide our customers with what they want - excellent eyecare, great service and a wider selection of product. Batemans Opticians is a well established business with a great offering and we'll be looking to extend and maximise these over the coming months.'
