The RNIB will celebrate the Louis Braille bicentenary with a programme of events to raise awareness of Braille and to celebrate his legacy.
Activities begin on January 4, his birthday, with the launch of an advertising campaign and other media activities to demonstrate the impact of Braille. On the same day the RNIB will relaunch its website featuring more podcasts and videos. A high profile event in March will be attended by former Home Secretary David Blunkett, patron for the year-long RNIB events.
Two key products will also be launched. The first, a grade one Braille course is for both sighted and touch learners followed by the publication of book featuring essays entitled How Braille changed my life.
