Vision Call Opticians has been named one of the UK's fastest growing private companies, coming 38th in the Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track league table published last weekend.

The Cambuslang-based business brings mobile testing services to care homes and has seen its sales grow from £785,000 a year in 2003 to £5.9m in 2006, a rise of 95.85 per cent. It now employs 120 staff, including 25 optometrists and seven dispensing opticians.

Three Glasgow businessmen, colleagues in a care-home business, set up the company in 1994 and it claims to have 67 per cent of the care-home market in Scotland, with clients in over 4,000 care homes across Britain.

The company plans to launch a Specs at Home service, offering eye care to the housebound or those who choose to have their optician visit them in the comfort and privacy of their home. The company plans to expand the corporate side of its business in 2007, 'as more and more corporate clients realise the value of combining their legal obligation with increased employee benefits through discount schemes on eye care provided through occupational health programmes'.

Vision Call now has eight branches UK-wide and managing director Brian McGuire credited the success to the commitment of the whole UK team to provide quality eye care to all Vision Call customers.
