This month's Bizarre magazine has once again raised the prickly subject of corneal tattooing. Unfortunately the web security in the Optician office doesn't allow us to look at Bizarre's website but the New York Post also had a feature on the procedure.

Want some patients? head down to the barbers

How about this for a piece of lateral marketing Edward de Bono, if he had been an optician, would have been pound of.
last week I had a hair cut. While in the chair I noticed a young man come in and start to watch the TV, barbers have them these days, it's wrong. He immediately screwed his eyes up in a vain attempt to see the screen ( Kevin Keegan's press conference on joining Newcastle it was). In the end he had to get up and walk across to see what was going on. Not much with or without your glasses on.
Saturday. It was my job to take the boys for a haircut, different barbers. Unisex salon I'm afraid. While I am waiting another customer comes, in picks up the newspaper and out goes the arm. ready readers? Forget it.The blokes was crying out for a +3.

When you see a picture like this in the newspaper you know there is a joke in there somewhere . I spotted this picture a while back and although I knew there was something in there it just didn't gel in my mind.
I am grateful of the contribution, it is so obvious now.
I should imagine there are many Northern Rock shareholders wishing for the same thing.

It's awards time again

The start of the year can be a bit of a drag but in the Optician office January means Optician Awards time!
This year we have made the process even more simple by opening an awards website that allows readers to enter at the click of a button. All that entrants need to do is write 500 to 1,000 words about why they feel they should win in their chosen category.
Once those initial entries have been made the optician team will ask those shortlisted for further information.
Why not click on and have look?

The Bookham Ortho K Society

They say word of mouth is a powerful tool and no one knows that to be true more than opticians.
The power of personal contact was made clear to me at New Year while hosting a family party. I had several brothers and sisters to stay but, being a humble journalist, I only have one bathroom. I noticed in the morning four neat sets of lens cases drying on a window sill ( well away from the WC naturally).

and three bottles of Unique PH.
It seems that after blathering on about ortho K for so long two of my brothers and one of my sisters are now using the system.
They are all older than me so we read the morning papers later that afternoon ( ortho K users' joke).
