Invest Northern Ireland and the Department for the Economy announced a £16.3m investment in a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence Collaboration Centre (AICC) at Ulster University, in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast.

The centre would focus on adopting AI technology to boost competitiveness and productivity across all industries, including life sciences, logistics, finance, manufacturing and agri-tech.

The AICC would encompass 25 dedicated staff members and in partnership with Queens’ University Belfast it would deliver 390 postgraduate AI qualifications and classroom-based or online skills training.

Queens University Belfast was one of 12 partnering institutions participating in the EU-funded I-Screen project (News, April 19), using AI technology, compatible with OCT scanners to identify and monitor age-related macular degeneration in its earliest stages.
