DVLA revises notifiable conditions list

After publishing an exhaustive list of notifiable eye conditions that could apply to nearly all drivers, the DVLA has published a revised directory.

An updated list of conditions was published last summer and was met with concern by professional bodies and practitioners. The Association of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists both wrote to the DVLA to express concern. The College said the document contained technical errors and that it was at no point consulted about the additions to the list.

Dr Peter Hampson, AOP clinical and professional director, said: ‘Throughout this process we’ve welcomed the opportunity to work with the DVLA and maintain open and effective dialogue on an issue that is important to so many people. We look forward to working with the DVLA in the future to continue to find practical solutions where needed for drivers, our members and the DVLA.’
