Italian eyewear manufacturer to create production centre near Kyoto

Italian eyewear manufacturer Luxottica has announced plans to create a production centre in the Fukui eyewear district near Kyoto, Japan.

Executive chairman Leonardo Del Vecchio revealed the plans at the same time as announcing that the company had acquired a 67% stake in Fukui Megane, a family-owned Japanese manufacturer specialising in the production of titanium and solid gold spectacles.

Luxottica did not disclose the value of the acquisition.
