Chris Bennett: Optician Awards entry deadline extended

Chris Bennett

Long and lazy summers come crashing to an end in September as the back-to-school panic sets in; there’s just so much to remember. No matter how many lists you make something always slips through the net.

New term time also marks the entry deadline for the Optician Awards, so in a bid to make everyone’s life a little easier Optician is offering an extra week to visit the awards website and submit their entries before a new deadline of September 8. Details of all the categories and how to enter can be found there.

Starting a new school and entering the Optician Awards may seem worlds apart but the benefit of hindsight suggests otherwise. The start of term is an exciting and scary prospect; so much rides on making the right impression.

Back in the day, as naive newbies, it felt that school success was about looking good and being clever. With hindsight, most cynical 16 years olds realise that relationships, communication and peer status count as much as reading, writing and arithmetic. Get those ‘As’ but make sure others know who you are and what you are capable of. It’s no different in professional life.

Entering the Optician Awards is not just about highlighting the good things that you do in practice but about leveraging that work to boost your business further. Winning an Optician Award will put you on the map with patients, but it will also make the people who work in your practice proud to be a part of the team. It may even make those working for your rivals want to be part of your team too.

So this weekend, as well as ironing the new school uniform, packing school bags and hoovering the last of the sand from the car, remember to visit opticianawards.co.uk and get your entries in.
