Powerful female characters from literature are the inspiration for Jason Wu’s five-strong optical collection for women. Model names include Elizabeth (1), Jane (2), Viola (3), Scout (4) and Josephine (5). The optical range focuses on subtle design details, matt finishes, understated branding and wearable shapes. Materials include handmade Japanese plastic with double-brushed stainless steel details. Viola and Jane are described as gutsy yet feminine shapes with textured metal details while Scout and Josephine are a bit more neutral with muted pastels and a soft matt finish. ● Details: www.modo.com +39 02 4399 8986.
Classic black, topaz and olive coloured optical frames in three styles have been added to the Derek Lam eyewear collection. Inspired by retro designs, the frames range from chunky with bevelling details (224 and 225 pictured right) to lighter, softer shapes. The trend for oversized eyes remains prominent in the three-strong sunglass line (eg model Edie pictured below). Quirky temple decorations such as two parallel stars add character to the designs while logo plaques are positioned subtly on the inner sides. The Ombre (gradient crystals) and animal print frames are complemented by double gradient lenses in soft desert shades of grey-amber and grey-pink. ● Details: www.modo.com +39 02 4399 8986.
The Jason Wu eyewear collection from Modo features sunglass and optical styles inspired by the designer’s ready-to-wear collections. There are two feminine and two unisex styles, with four to five finishes per style. Colours include semi-translucent crystals in aquamarine, topaz, onyx, opal, olivine, noir, caramel, and tortoise. Shapes include Seberg, an updated cat’s eye (pictured) that is slightly rounded, with a metal brow detail; Earhart, an oversized aviator with metal brow bar and end piece; Jett, a retro-inspired shape and Mia, an oversized frame with bevelled edges. Materials used include handmade Japanese plastic with double-brushed stainless steel details and double gradient CR 39 lenses. There are subtle logo treatments in four accent colours that correspond to the interior treatments of Jason Wu clothing. Modo chief executive officer Alessandro Lanaro said of Wu: ‘His use of luxurious fabrications, attention to details and youthful attitude, fits perfectly with Modo’s philosophy.' Designer and creative director Fabien Baron has introduced a new sunglass collection with Modo. Baron, who has designed magazine layouts to fragrance bottles, advertising campaigns to furniture, has added seven new oversized acetate styles, including two unisex models. The modern designs, are described by Modo as offering bold simplicity and sophistication, each available in colour combinations from a selection of pink, moss, berry, lacquer, cafe, ocean and wine, as well as signature colours of black, horn, red and bark. ‘Sunglasses, as objects, have the potential to be designed with detailed precision,’ said Baron, who added that with the new collection he had applied ‘subtle design refinements to improve the fit and design of classic shapes.’ The designs are hand crafted in Japan and ‘carved into shape rather than moulded, coupled with expertly engineered polarised lenses which filter glare, UV rays and reflections’. A silver logo is embedded above the temple and the eyewear comes in a rectangular lizard-style case. Details: www.modo.com
