Get the drop with Speedway
Safilo has just launched a new collection of sunglasses frames under its house brand Carrera which marries vintage styling with contemporary details according to the manufacturer. These include the Speedway model, which has an injection-moulded drop shape and the Carrera logo on the front. It is avalible in a variety of colour combinations that feature contrasting graphic lines on both front and temples. Topcar 2, is a soft-shaped injection-moulded mask model which features striking colour combinations such as red, crystal and black with shaded grey lenses; or white, crystal and purple with shaded purple lenses. Made from metal, model Panamerika 1 (top has a drop shape and features the Carrera logo alongside a graphic line on its temples. According to Safilo it is suitable for both men and women. Another unisex drop-shaped model, Carman 1 features 80s styling, while the Hippy 1 (bottom) acetate frame for women has a softer round design more reminscient of 1960s fashion. Hippy 2, also for women, is a slightly boxier version. The Carrera collection of sunglasses was created by designer Enzo Sopracolle and produced and distributed by Safilo. Details: 01423 520 303.
Gucci stripes hit the slopes
Ski goggles are the latest additions to Gucci’s new Eyeweb collection, distributed by Safilo. The unisex ski masks are available in either black or white and carry the brand’s trademark red and green colour pattern on the stretch headbands. Each ski mask comes with a soft pouch and is packaged in a black box which also features the striped Gucci colours. Offering 100 per cent protection against UV radiation, the masks use anti-fog lenses which feature Seal Ring technology. New Carrera collection
A new collection of Carrera optical frames has been launched by Safilo featuring both men’s and women’s models. Made from acetate, the men’s range features a large boxy style and details including a metal insert on the bridge, flexible temples and the Carrera logo. All of the Carrera housebrand frames were designed by Enzo Sopracolle and are produced and distributed by Safilo. ● Details: 01423 520303.
Oxydo gives choice to children
Dedicated to children aged between eight and 12 years old, the new Oxydo optical eyewear collection features flexible temples, which manufacturer Safilo described as offering a perfect fit even in extreme conditions such as play and sport. Made from multi-layered acetate, the rectangular model X380 for girls features milled hearts which frame the Oxydo logo on its temples. The frame comes in pastel shades such as blue and white, red and white, pink and lilac, and purple. A little heart with a sparkling rhinestone adorns model X379 which features a sheet metal rectangular front and acetate temples. Acetate model X378 has a colour palette of ‘candy combinations’ such as purple, cyclamen and white; pink, white and cyclamen; and wisteria, purple and lilac. Unisex model X381 features a metal oval front and acetate temples, while unisex acetate model X383 has a rectangular design and is decorated with a sculpted star on the temples, which include a diamanté stud alongside the Oxydo logo. Glam-rock from Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs’ new special edition optical frame is described by its Italian manufacturer Safilo as having ‘feisty glam-rock appeal and blatant punk overtones’. Its temple detail includes a logo underlined by metal studs echoing the designer’s other accessories creations. Pyramid and hexagonal studs decorate the frame, which is available in colour combinations including dark havana, black and black spotted honey. Model MJ 292 has a boxy 1980s shape, comes in a white hard case and is personalised with the screw and stud detailing seen on the frame temple. It will be available from August 2009.
