The annual Association of Independent Optometrists (AIO) conference took place from October 5 to 6, at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwickshire. With up to five simultaneous educational streams on offer, delegates were spoilt for choice. The conference also provided ample opportunity for networking, with a well-attended exhibition during the day and a gala dinner in the evening.
I was delighted to catch up with John Dixon Salt and Roy Midwinter, members of the Ophthalmic Antiques International Collectors Club (OAICC), who had brought along a mix of optical curiosities from decades (and centuries) past. They were joined by fellow optical history expert Neil Handley, curator of the British Optical Association (BOA) Museum.
