Collaboration within the independent optical community was singled out as a point of importance to the 200 delegates attending the SightCare Business & Networking Conference on January 29-30. The event held a well-balanced and engaging mix of activities beginning on Sunday with entertainment from comedian Sarah Louise Keegan, and celebrations for the annual SightCare Awards ceremony in recognition of the sector, and continuing into knowledge sharing and exhibitions on Monday.
SightCare CEO John French told Optician this was helped by the event restructure, following member feedback. ‘This year, we aimed to give a little bit more in terms of entertainment, with more structure. This way members had time to celebrate award winners on Sunday and enjoy workshops on Monday without feeling rushed,’ he says. The awards ceremony and networking were moved to Sunday, while the workshops were swapped to Monday. The usual keynote speech was presented as an interview discussion between Hakim Group founder and CEO Imran Hakim and SightCare chair Martin White to incorporate an interactive element.
