The UK Eye Care Data Hub has been launched to assist optical sector employers and eye care service commissioners in understanding patient needs and planning for workforce capacity, informed by forecasting future demand and incidences in eye conditions.
A consortium of eye care associations, led by the College of Optometrists, worked together to collate data for the open-access online tool. It can model more than 40 eye conditions and calculate the eye care workforce, spanning both primary and secondary eye care services, to provide an overview by UK region of the next 15 years.
This aimed to empower employers’ decision-making about recruitment planning and investment in higher qualifications and training.
