Specsavers invests in myopia management

It has rolled out myopia management services to all of its UK and Ireland practices

Specsavers has rolled out myopia management services to all of its UK and Ireland practices after investing in treatment options and training.

Practices that have met accreditation requirements were able to dispense Hoya’s Miyosmart ophthalmic lenses and CooperVision’s MiSight contact lenses.

Online training and roadshows have enabled practitioners to recommend options based on a patient’s individual circumstances and clinical needs.

Paul Gough, head of ophthalmic lenses and dispensing at Specsavers, said the national launch of myopia management was a demonstration of the multiple’s passion for clinical growth and care. ‘To ensure our colleagues are able to offer the best possible advice and care to customers we have a very comprehensive accreditation process for all clinicians and retail colleagues, which must be completed before supplying myopia management products to customers.

‘We know that children, like adults, are all individual. That’s why we’ve launched two new myopia management products with both glasses and contact lens options for myopia management. We will help children and their parents select the right solution for them,’ Gough said.

Specsavers told Optician that it worked closely with Hoya and CooperVision to ensure all areas were covered, such as mechanisms to manage myopia, risk factors, product knowledge and effective communication. This included a series of modules and a quiz that formed part of the clinical and retail accreditation programme.
