Vision Council report highlights low vision challenges

Eye care professionals diagnosed 90% of the 101 US low vision patients surveyed in the Vision Council’s ‘Focused Insights 2024: Low Vision’ report. Referrals to low vision specialists were found to be underutilised, particularly for those diagnosed more than 10 years ago.

Doctors remained the primary source of patient information (72%) while 48% of patients and caregivers consulted online resources and websites focused on low vision (34%).

Some 62% of respondents said ‘low vision’ effectively described their condition, one in five patients said they faced challenges finding specialists while blurred vision, difficulty in low light and reading problems remained the most common symptoms leading to lifestyle adjustments.
