Tom Davies appreciates the clinical innovations rewarded by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers at a recent event

Whenever I go to an event organised by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM), I can’t help marvelling at my own stupidity. Why? Because for years, I actively avoided them. And now, every time I attend a function, I can’t believe what I was missing out on all that time. 

It happened again a few weeks ago when I attended a WCSM event at Apothecaries’ Hall where it announced the winners of its annual bronze medal award competitions for vision research.

If you enjoy networking like I do, then this was obviously a golden opportunity in its own right. But each WCSM event I attend seems to sink me deeper into a sense of belonging, born out of the organisation’s historical gravity.
