2020 In Review: Practitioners’ perspectives

Four practitioners tell Andrew McClean how they responded to the challenges of the pandemic and outline why they are optimistic about the future

Catherine McNamara, optometrist and director at Liverton Opticians in Newport, acknowledges that 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. ‘Working through the pandemic has made us aware of not just the physical wellbeing of our patients but also the emotional. In a stressful time, we have forged bonds with people that we might not have otherwise.

‘The working relations with primary care practitioners and our colleagues in secondary care has been more cohesive, ensuring swifter and better care is provided. As we come to the end of 2020, we are all more adaptable and recognise that this new “normal” way of working will be around for the foreseeable future.’
