Adapting frames: Adding nose pads

Santos Tseng, Jia-Yu Liang, and Feng-Tzu Liang describe an alternative method of adding nose pads to frames

Back in 2009, we published a technique explaining a method for adding nose pads to plastic frames (Optician 20.02.09). The motivation for adding nose pads (or nose pad arms, as described in Optician 23.01.09) is to help raise frames that sit too low on a patient’s face, or to help distance frames that sit too close to a patient’s eyes.

Here we introduce a second technique to add nose pads that is different to the first technique in two ways. First, the drilled holes do not pass all the way through the frame and second, the nose pads do not require screws to secure them to the frame.
