The road to manufacturing for Koonar started when he and a business partner took over Fantaseyes, a practice in Farnborough in which he had worked as a locum. Under its previous ownership it operated on the budget side of the market but the new owners opted for more upmarket products and better lenses. 'People were happy to pay a bit more for better products and we took on a few brands, Gucci, Burberry and Silhouette,' he says.
