Why did you decide on optics as a career? 

Luke Smith I am very much a people person and I wanted to work with the public. Optics is incredibly rewarding because you are genuinely able to help individuals every day. Sometimes we overlook how our expertise can really enhance people’s daily lives.

What was your career path into optics?

LS When I was 16 I began as a Saturday kid in Specsavers Worcester and as time went on I worked more days around my college course. I took a gap year to consider my career path. At the time I was leaning towards law but in the end I decided to do what I enjoyed and applied to study ophthalmic dispensing at Anglia Ruskin University.
