Keith Tempany reflects on his Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year award

A Dorset practitioner who combines specialist contact lens practice with niche fashion frames was a double winner at this year’s Optician Awards

‘Quite possibly the most amazing moment in my professional life,’ is how contact lens optician Keith Tempany describes his experience of receiving Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year 2014 along with a second Optician Award, for Fashion Practice of the Year.

‘To be honest, I don’t think it’s fully sunk in even now,’ says Tempany. ‘To win one award is a fantastic feeling. To be fortunate enough to win two in one evening is tremendous – like winning the Premiership title and the FA Cup on the same day!’

With 80 per cent of its work in contact lenses, Tempany’s Boutique Opticians of Broadstone is known for providing a specialist contact lens service within a community practice. But since Tempany first won the contact lens award four years ago, his practice has undergone a complete transformation, moving from a first-floor office environment to a three-storey building with a large showroom and a focus on niche fashion frames.
