As news is evolving every hour, these weekly updates are unlikely to reflect the very latest news. However, the aim is to summarise what is known about the virus and its impact so far, and to highlight facts that are relevant to eye care practice. In this first update, let us consider some key points about what we know about the virus so far, what options for treatment are being looked at, and what is the current advice to reduce transmission in the clinical environment.

Patients showing symptoms should not be seen for eye care and instead need consideration for CoV testing and management. Last week, the College of Optometrists endorsed the advice given on March 30 by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists regarding seeing patients with no respiratory symptoms and no COVID-19 risk factors.
