Sophie Dutilloy joined Alcon as president for its EMEA region in March, Chris Bennett caught up with her at the BCLA conference in Manchester to talk about Alcon’s new found freedom, artificial intelligence and growing the contact lens business

Returning to the contact lens market after a 10-year break revealed many familiar themes for the president of Alcon’s eye care businesses in the European Middle East and Africa region. Far from predicting more of the same Sophie Dutilloy says the new found freedom Alcon now enjoys following its split from Novartis and the emergence of new technologies make change possible.

In her new role Dutilloy will run both the vision care and surgical arms of Alcon something, she says, offers the opportunity to be a true eye care company. It was also an opportunity for her to get back into the contact lens business. Among her optical palmares, are 20 years within various divisions of Johnson & Johnson including a stint as the country head for J&J’s Vision Care business in the UK.
