In Focus: Best practices in optometry teaching

Findings from an analysis of teaching and learning methods have been published by the Sector Partnership for Optical Knowledge and Education (Spoke). Spoke is a cross-sector collaboration funded by the General Optical Council (GOC), and jointly managed by representatives from the College of Optometrists, the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the Optometry Schools Council (OSC).

Project Two outlined best practice approaches to teaching and learning for student optometrists and dispensing opticians, based on case studies and learning examples from individuals and course teams in the UK and internationally. It focused on examples of the types of assessment and teaching methods that could be used for the revised GOC outcomes: person-centred care; communication; clinical care; ethics and standards; risk; leadership and management; and lifelong learning.
