Professor Richard Newsom discusses optometrists’ attitudes to PPE with Andrew McClean

Optometrists have significant concerns about the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), according to a survey into attitudes to personal risk during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The survey was led by corresponding author, consultant ophthalmologist and professor of vision science at the University of Portsmouth, Richard Newsom, with his colleagues at the university’s school of health and care professions.

Newson told Optician that the survey was designed to find out whether attitudes or use of PPE enabled some optometrists to stay open and see their patients and whether this attitude changes over time as more information about Covid-19 becomes available.
