In focus: Trying to get traction for an English vision of eye care

As a national eye health strategy is brought to the attention of Parliament, Jo Gallacher spoke to industry leaders to find out what it means for eye care providers

Last week an all-party parliamentary group on eye health and visual impairment took to the halls of Westminster to discuss preventing avoidable sight loss. Headed by co-chair and Wealden MP Nusrat Ghani, the group proposed an English national strategy to govern eye health. It argued similar eye health strategies exist in both Scotland and Wales, as well as equivalent national strategies in England for hearing loss and dementia.

Underpinning the argument were RNIB figures which state almost two million people in the UK live with sight loss, a figure which is predicted to double to around four million by 2020.
