Mr Wang, presented with unilateral symptoms of an acute posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) possibly harbouring a retinal tear or detachment. The practitioner was obviously conscious of the fact that some 8-14% of patients with acute PVD symptoms can go on to have retinal tears that could progress to a retinal detachment with potentially dramatic effects on vision.1,2
