Interview: Fighting fit

Faced with an eyewear industry they felt was consciously ignoring the needs of black people, Clare and Christina Kimeze took matters into their own hands. Simon Jones reports

When it comes to choosing and adjusting a pair of spectacles or sunglasses so they fit perfectly, most eye care professionals have the right skills to make sure all of their patients walk out of the practice feeling happy. But do they have all the right products?

Claire and Christina Kimeze, two London-based sisters of British and Ugandan descent, did not think so. After lengthy research, they came to the conclusion there were no glasses on the market designed specifically for black and brown faces with a lower wider bridge, namely glasses with lower and wider nose bridges among other subtle adjustments. Claire and Christina decided to change that by launching Kimeze earlier this year.
