Only made a city in 2012, Perth maintains a small town feel. Emma White reports

The historic city of Perth, often referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands, is located on the banks of the River Tay in central Scotland. In 2012, Perth won a Diamond Jubilee contest involving 25 UK towns to be named Scotland’s seventh city. Compact and easily accessible, the city is no more than 90 minutes from 90% of Scotland. Gleneagles golf resort, Perth Race Course and a selection of whisky distilleries are a short drive away.

‘Perth is a small city that manages to retain a small town feel,’ says Sharon Philip, an optometrist and store director at Specsavers. The practice, comprising five optometrists, two dispensing opticians, two trainee dispensing opticians and a bank of locums, is located on a prominent corner of the high street.
