Moving downstairs in style

Differentiation is the modern mantra of the independent. Chris Bennett travelled to Cheltenham to hear more about Ellis & Killpartrick’s journey to be different

Neil Vedmore is the kind of personable, professional manager and dispensing optician you might expect to find in any decent optical practice. But a desire to be different and a practice move have driven him to learn a host of new skills.

For the last year, Vedmore has also become a designer, project manager, PR agent and event planner often working a 15 hour day while keeping all of his staff and patients happy. The reason for the extra workload has been differentiation through a move from its first floor premises for his practice in the town’s Regent Arcade to a stylish new home on the ground floor. The move downstairs has seen the practice gain the space it needs to expand while allowing the adoption of an updated, stylish look that seeks to tap into a younger group of customers.
