Optician Awards 2018: Technology Practice of the Year

As you walk down the broad, Georgian streets of Morningside Road in Edinburgh you reach a Specsavers. Apart from a poster displayed in the window, nothing would suggest that within this store contains some of the most advanced technology in the optical industry.

‘After I started acquiring some of the technology, I realised that there are some hospitals that don’t have this stuff,’ says Michael O’Kane, director optometrist at the practice. ‘And then I thought that we should enter the competition’.

O’Kane is speaking of the 2018 Optician Awards at which he and his team took home the award for Technology Practice of the Year. Previous finalists in 2015, the practice has spent the past few years upgrading its stock and investing in equipment it deemed necessary for patient care.
