Q&A: Dr Holly Price

Clinical Practice
The senior lecturer at the Vision and Hearing Sciences department of Anglia Ruskin University answers our questions

How has your involvement with research projects enriched your career in optics?

Dr Holly Price: My initial research allowed me to complete my PhD, which has since led me down a new career path in academia, as an alternative to my original position in high street practice. Working as an investigator on a clinical trial – the Cambridge Anti Myopia Study – gave me insight into the excitement and challenges of running such a trial, and the commitment of participants and investigators alike.

Research has introduced me to other academics globally who I would not have met otherwise, being part of the Vision Loss Expert group for the Global Burden of Disease Study has developed my interest is epidemiology of blindness and visual impairment. It was wonderful to work among a global team of senior researchers who are at the forefront of vision research and collaborating with researchers at the World Health Organisation was a particular highlight.
