The forthcoming annual SCLOSS conference offers a useful snapshot of developments in the practice of eye care north of the border. Optician reports

It is over 10 years since the new GOS contract was introduced in Scotland, offering extra funding for full NHS eye test provision and extra payment for supplementary tests, such as threshold fields and tonometry, and dilated fundoscopy of all patients over 60 years of age.

As the new contract became established, Scotland was often seen as leading the way in enhancing the role of optometrists. In recent years, pachymetry has become widespread in support of tonometry for example, and on the back of a swell of IP qualifications, prescription pads are to be found in practices throughout the country.
