Mo Chaudhry reviews the controversial UK mini-budget from an optical perspective

This was a mini budget that was all about tax cuts, incentives, and simplification, the biggest package of tax cuts in 50 years in fact. The majority of the announcements from this budget will result in more money back into the pockets of locum optometrists and locum dispensing opticians with reductions in personal, company tax, dividend tax, plus the corporation tax rate freeze.

While it does mean more money into our pockets there are some macro concerns. More borrowing resulting in the current financial year deficit being over £150bn. In addition, it could result in further hikes in inflation and interest rates. Only time will tell whether the gamble to accelerate growth was the correct one.
