Bill Harvey is excited by a new app for monitoring central acuity

I first met optometrist Stephanie Campbell (pictured below) some years back in the Cardiff University optometry clinic when she was completing her PhD. I had just finished working on one of the first Optician app reviews, and Stephanie came bounding over full of enthusiasm about the potential for modern digital devices to assist in eye care.

Over the intervening years, via the occasional news story, conference report and even a TED talk, I saw how the now Dr Campbell had managed to channel that enthusiasm into founding a Bristol-based technology company, OKKO Health, whose aim is to develop home-monitoring apps for measuring vision. Most recently, I bumped into Stephanie again and learned how OKKO Health is progressing and had my first look at one of their health-checking apps.
