Tried and tested: Acuvue Vita

Vita is comfortable and on first wear is hardly perceptible

Johnson & Johnson has been absent from the monthly replacement lens category but advances in materials technology has changed all of that.

Acuvue Vita with HydraMax Technology is J&J’s monthly lens for those wearers it says have been suffering in silence with the fall off in comfort from their current lens. Vita uses an un-coated silicone hydrogel material which, it is claimed, maintains hydration offering good comfort throughout each month’s wear. Tried and Tested coupled Vita up with Ote’s Sensations all in one solution for the daily cleaning and storing regime.

Vita is comfortable and on first wear is hardly perceptible, certainly on a par with good daily lenses. As a daily disposable convert I was a little apprehensive about the cleaning routine. However, Vita handles very well, helped by its tint, the Ote Sensation solutions is a simple rub and rinse. The daily routine was much less hassle than memories of re-usable wear. For green-minded patients the lack of discarded blister packs would be bonus.

The wear coincided with the hottest spell of weather for many years but even after a stifling day at the office sat in front of a fan the lenses remained comfortable. It was only after one particularly long, hot and air-conditioned day I noticed some transient end of day dryness and misting.

Vita benefits from a thorough clean and even as the month drew to a close the lens was still comfortable. Vision throughout the month also remained very good even at short distance. As a presbyope, and wearer of multifocal products, I had been concerned about close work. It was only when faced with very small print and poor light that the ready readers needed to come out.

Vita is a modern monthly lens offering great vision and lasting comfort. If priced right it could certainly tempt wearers back to the reusable format.
