The Pendulum Hotel and Conference Centre, Manchester was the venue for this year’s AIO conference welcoming around 200 independent optometrists, dispensing opticians and optical students who took part in three tracks of learning from around 20 presenters. Peter Black reports

This was my fifth AIO conference though being local I travelled each day and can only report reliably on the business activities. That said the social activities were very popular, and included a Gin Experience, Tree Top Trek and a tour of the nearby BBC Centre at Media City UK in Salford. Delegates attending Saturday night’s dinner at Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium were treated to stand-up comedy from Manchester University’s multi-talented optometrist-cum-comedian Dr Sarah Morgan.

The Association of Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians represents independent opticians who by their very nature have differing independent views so it was good news that there was a wide variety of education on offer including CET lectures and workshops, a number of business topics, as well as opportunities for student optometrists and dispensing opticians too.
