Optician hears about the recent open day at the optometry department of the University of Hertfordshire as its first students approach completion of the four year course

Back in early 2017, Optician reported on a new four-year Master of Optometry degree course recently launched at the University of Hertfordshire (Optician 10.03.17). The first 50 students to undertake the course are now entering the latter half of their studies and will soon leave with a master’s degree under their belts. The nature of the course is very hands-on and includes integrated sessions in hospitals and private practices, along with a full pre-registration year in community practice starting in the middle of their third year

Primary care suite

Construction of a specialist clinical facility was completed in 2017, as part of the ongoing development of the Master of Optometry programme at the University of Hertfordshire. Students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year, are all taught in this clinic. This bespoke area was designed to give students the widest experience with a comprehensive range of the very latest instrumentation. This is so the students will gain the knowledge, skill, experience and confidence to work within different environments.
