A vision for success

Team USA Paralympian Lex Gillette presented the Hakim Group’s latest webinar

Team USA Paralympian Lex Gillette presented the Hakim Group’s final wellbeing and development webinar as part of its #StrongerTogether programme last week.

The current long jump world record holder told viewers about his story from sight to blindness, including being told at eight years old that he would go blind.

During the webinar, entitled ‘There is no need for sight when you have a vision’, Gillette said: ‘Think about a time in your life when you have been faced with something seemingly impossible to achieve. If you have the courage, take the extra steps beyond your comfort zone.’

He explained how his mother’s inspiration and love are the foundation for his accomplishments and ongoing success. Gillette’s mother’s ultimate goal was to ensure he could lead an independent life and contribute to society, encouraging him to ‘count the steps’ and then explore further beyond that.

Optometrist and Hakim Group webinar host, Gavin Rebello, said: ‘Lex is an absolute inspiration and a wonderful human being. His goal is to inspire audiences to realise a vision of who they can truly be, ultimately teaching people to see.’

The webinar is available to view on the Hakim Group’s dedicated Covid-19 website, where donations to an NHS fundraising drive can also be made.
