The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) launched a series of training courses and qualifications in partnership with the Chartered Management Institute at 100% Optical (January 25-27).
The level five management and leadership qualification is designed for managers who want to formalise the knowledge and experience they have gained in practice.
Nick Walsh, sector skills development office at ABDO, said: ‘If you are a manager or aspire to a management role, ask yourself this question: In the last 12 months, how many hours have you spent on structured management training or learning for yourself? As a manager you need to make time for your own development. This will improve the success of the business, the effectiveness of the team and the morale of the team as well as bringing benefits to your career.’
ABDO explained that the qualification can be completed at diploma or certificate level, with training available online and via optional workshops to extend learning.
It covers topics such as developing, managing and leading individuals and teams, managing performance and the principles of delivering coaching and mentoring.
