BCLA Love Your Lenses campaign grows 20%

The contact lens awareness campaign expanded year-on-year with global responses

More than 270 individual practices took part in the British Contact Lens Association’s (BCLA) global Love Your Lenses campaign, which aimed to raise awareness of safe management and hygiene of contact lenses.

Held between June 13-19, the campaign gained 20 per cent increased involvement from practices since 2021, with many using awareness resources, such as posters, ‘no water’ stickers and t-shirts.

The social media campaign reached more than 250,000, with practices contributing pictures of their activity and advice for contact lens wearers in alignment with BCLA’s goals.

Luke Stevens-Burt, chief executive of the BCLA, said: ‘Love Your Lenses Week is an opportunity to remind patients of the importance of happy and healthy contact lens wear and a chance to give simple, practical advice such as ‘no water’ messaging to ensure compliance and create good long term habits.

‘There was a real international flavour to participants, with eye care professionals from Australia, America, Greece and Italy all taking part – reflecting the truly global nature of the BCLA.’

Yorkshire Eyewear opticians, which had their optometrists wearing the pink campaign t-shirts, added: ‘In all three of our practices we displayed the Love Your Lenses merchandise and used the safety sheets to hand out and educate our patients on contact lens care.’
