​Allan Russell has signed up for RNIB's charity marathon challenge

Allan Russell, from Bishopton near Glasgow, has signed up for the Royal National Institute of Blind People’s (RNIB) Marathon Mates challenge with his guide-dog Quigley and his daughter Laura.

The Marathon Mates challenge encourages participants to pair up and share the task of running 26.2 miles between them, with any money raised to be donated to support blind and partially sighted people.

Russell lost his sight in 2001 to Leber’s congenital amaurosis, a degenerative genetic condition. He commented: ‘RNIB was there for me when I lost my sight and helped me regain my IT skills and get my mojo back.’
