Blackfin celebrated its 50th anniversary in the eyewear industry with the opening a new headquarters in Taibon Agordino, Italy on October 13.
Staff and friends of the company attended, as well as astronaut Paolo Nespoli who spoke to guests about his experiences of going to space.
Other guests included Maria Luisa Pramaor who, in 1971, opened an artisan eyewear finishing workshop. By the end of 2021, Blackfin expected to reach €12m in turnover.
At the event, CEO of Blackfin, Nicola Del Din, said: ‘Today, we are celebrating madness, the madness many credited us with for deciding to build our headquarters here, on this spot, and the madness of Giancarlo [Recchia, CFO] for deciding to believe in this company that, in the opinion of many, seemed on the brink of financial ruin.’
Blackfin’s expanded headquarters, named Black Shelter, doubled the production area and has been certified to meet ecological, economic and socio-cultural standards.
The building’s roof has been designed to replicate the silhouette of the surround Dolomites and it was clad in black aluminium sheets with hexagonal cut-outs that exposed the building.
