Blind veterans who took part in the D-Day landings 75 years ago were the guests of honour at a Blind Veterans UK (BVUK) lunch commemorating Operation Overlord last week.

Bob Jones was just one of a number of veterans who were on the beaches of Normandy in June 1944 and present at the event aboard HMS Belfast. The day provided the opportunity to hear first hand accounts of the landings and from Major General (Rtd) Nick Caplin, CEO of BVUK about the work it carries out.

He presented a tribute to each of the veterans who had taken part in the biggest ever sea-borne military operation. They all now suffer from age-related macular degeneration, a disease Caplin said BVUK would put more resources into tackling in the coming years.
