Optometrist from Bristol takes on a winter survival exercise

An optometrist from Bristol took on a winter survival exercise in the Norwegian mountains this month that retraced the footsteps of a group of famous wartime raiders who foiled a Nazi atomic bomb programme.

Nicola Bolt, 53, works as both a Specsavers employee and an air movements officer in the RAF Reserves.

She joined 50 other RAF reservists on ‘Exercise Wintermarch’ to learn Nordic skiing, avalanche survival and dealing with extreme cold from members of the Norwegian military.

‘It was a fantastic experience and I love being here in the snow and the beautiful scenery,’ said Bolt. ‘It’s been hard work but great fun and the instructors really make sure you know what you’re doing before they let you loose.’
