Scotland has an opportunity to build a world class eye health service, according to recommendations made in a new report published by Optometry Scotland.

The performance of community optometry before and during Covid-19 was examined over three months and it was concluded that Scotland should maintain universal, NHS-funded eye care in the future.

Julie Mosgrove, chair of the working group and vice chair of Optometry Scotland, said: ‘Scotland is the only part of the UK to provide universally funded NHS eye examinations. It is clear we have a real opportunity to now build on this and establish a service that is truly world class.’
