Some of the world’s largest employers have been called on to provide free eye tests for staff.
The Clearly campaign has produced new research that shows big businesses such as McDonald’s, Walmart and Amazon how providing eye glasses to workers dramatically increases productivity that is the equivalent to an extra day of work a week. More than 20 million employees could benefit from these measures.
Titled Prosper (Productivity Study of Presbyopia Elimination in Rural dwellers), the research has highlighted to large companies that free work-based sight tests and affordable glasses can improve their workers’ quality of life. It further stated that some African drivers have few sight tests, which can contribute to road traffic accidents, a leading cause of death.
James Chen, founder of the Clearly campaign, said: ‘Employers must now take a proactive role in tackling poor vision by providing free sight tests and affordable glasses for their workers. It’s a win, win for business – improving their employees’ wellbeing and satisfaction at work, and improving their own bottom line.’
