A 21-year-old has received life changing cataract surgery at Rowley Hall Hospital in Staffordshire.

Bonnie Thomas has always had difficulty with her vision and after becoming frustrated when trying to read number plates during her driving lessons, approached eye surgeon Balasubramaniam Llango.

Llango, who specialises in corneal transplant procedures, made the suggestion for Thomas to have cataract surgery despite her young age.

He said: ‘Even though many older people require cataract surgery, the age for surgery is not set in stone. I’m delighted that Bonnie is thrilled with the surgery and that it has made a real difference to her day-to-day life.’

Thomas has since passed her driving test and is enjoying the benefits of her improved vision.

She added: ‘I feel that the surgery has helped me to get my life going again, not just with my driving but with general everyday tasks. I was really nervous about the operations but they were the best things I’ve ever done.’
