China introduces more screen time regulations

New regulations to protect young people’s eyesight by the Chinese government

New regulations to protect young people’s eyesight have been introduced by the Chinese government.

Six central agencies, including the Ministry for Education, jointly issued guidelines concerning the duration of after-school online training programmes, which the agencies said should last no longer than 40 minutes and should be broken up by breaks of longer than 10 minutes.

In addition, the guidelines demand live broadcast lessons in compulsory education to be performed before 9pm to give students enough sleep.

The measures follow a string of other initiatives by the Chinese Communist Party to curb the growth in myopia in the country’s youth.
